Class: Build a Pair of Heavy-Duty Sliding Dovetail Saw Benches with Joshua Farnsworth (1 Day)

$160.00

CLASS LENGTH: 1 Day

CLASS DESCRIPTION: Spend a day with Joshua Farnsworth, building a pair of saw benches that are functional enough for everyday hand sawing, but strong enough to hold very heavy timber, including large slabs for workbench building. Many of the workbenches in the school were built on these indispensable saw benches! Students will learn to layout and cut the mystical sliding dovetail joint on beefy splayed timber legs with marking gauges, hand saws, and chisels.

Description

During this one day class Joshua Farnsworth will guide you through building a pair of very strong timber saw benches. Saw benches are indispensable in a traditional workshop, and these are the only pair you’ll ever need! The trick to the strength of these saw benches isn’t just the heavy lumber, but the self-tightening sliding dovetail joint and splayed legs. By the end of class, this tricky joint should become second nature to students. These saw benches are really useful for sturdily holding a workbench slab while building a workbench (as pictured below). They keep the workbench from shaking while hand planing the workbench tops.
